About the bath
The bath was built in the 16th century over ancient Roman remains, from the time when there were thermae here known as Aquae Calidae and Thermopolis. The Ottoman building is square in plan; in the centre is a marble pool for immersion in the hot mineral water, used for treatments, and along the walls are kurni – small stone basins for washing the body. The bath was in active use until about ten years ago, when it was closed and turned into a museum.
