About the bath
The town of Dobrinishte has been declared a balneological resort thanks to its famous 17 mineral springs, with temperatures between 30 and 43 °C.
And as befits it, in the centre of the small town, set in a lovely park-garden, stands its fine public mineral bath, with the melodious name “Balneolechebnitsa” (Balneotherapy Centre)!
The building was put up in 1934 to a design by architect Berov. It is a very fine example of the modern movement in architecture of those years – a two-storey building, gently curved in plan, with a colonnade facing the garden and a thin concrete canopy that emphasises its long, elegant silhouette.
The park is lovely, the paths have been resurfaced and the surroundings improved. The fountain for filling bottles is in front of the bath building; it works, is accessible day and night, and is used actively and with pleasure by the people of Dobrinishte and visitors!
The borehole from which the mineral water comes is in the park.
The bath is a classic one, with a men's and a women's section. Visitors are welcomed by a spacious, high foyer, from which the men's and women's sections open on either side. Each section has a changing room and a toilet, and one pool. The water in the pool flows through and is constantly renewed, the precious liquid pouring into it from the mouth of a bronze lion's head. The pool room is spacious and high, crowned with a beautiful dome. It has showers and basins with seats (kurni). Swimsuits are not allowed.
The bath has a massage room with its own price list and opening hours.
The installations and equipment in the building are quite old and hard to maintain, but the people who run the bath do their best, and everything is clean and working as far as possible. The building itself now needs a major renovation.

Used for external balneotherapy and balneoprophylaxis (after appropriate tempering to 35–37 °C), it has a beneficial effect on the following conditions: degenerative and inflammatory diseases in remission (arthritis, coxarthrosis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, etc.); diseases of the peripheral nervous system (disc disease, radiculitis, plexitis, polyradiculopathy, etc.); after surgery on the musculoskeletal system (for kinesitherapy after injuries and operations); skin conditions (chronic dermatitis, psoriasis); gynaecological conditions (chronic gynaecological diseases of the female reproductive system – infertility, metritis, chronic adnexitis, etc.).
The water is thermal (38.4–43.5 °C), low in minerals, alkaline, hydrocarbonate–sodium in composition, without smell or sediment. In the Klut classification it counts as “very soft”. In balneological terms the water has a beneficial effect on chronic and joint rheumatism, inflammatory diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system, gynaecological conditions, chronic skin conditions, and chronic diseases of the stomach and intestines.
