Na Baniamineral baths of Bulgaria БГ

About the bath

Enthusiastic local people began building the bath with their own money and labour decades ago. Under socialism it was run by the so-called “Kurortno Delo” (Resort Service) of the Ministry of Health. The building and the land have a deed of municipal ownership. After the changes of the 1990s, according to the documents, the Ministry of Health was only the user of the “Kostenets” mineral bath, the park and the mineral pool, and in 2004 they became the property of a new body – “Specialised Hospitals for Rehabilitation – National Complex” EAD, a company wholly owned by the Ministry of Health. Local people started a civic initiative to return the property to the municipality so it could be renovated and people could have access to the healing water. The hospitals' company refuses to transfer it free of charge and instead offers to sell it to Kostenets Municipality for the modest sum of one and a half million.
