About the bath

The Belchinski Bani resort has a rich history. After the healing properties of the water were discovered in 1889, local people built a small domed bath with volunteer labour, using material from a demolished mosque in Samokov. The money from bath tickets paid the salary of the teacher at the primary school. Once the bath was built, many other useful activities sprang up around it, such as building roads and bridges, planting forests and laying out a park. Under socialism holiday stations were built in the resort, and the new bath building was completed in 1958, owned by the Sofia District People's Council. After the changes the building was privatised and in 2008 became the property of “Synergon Holding” AD. The company also acquired the plot under the building: by Decision No. 127, minutes No. 6/25.02.2016 of its meeting of 25.02.2016, Samokov Municipal Council sold a plot of 6,758 sq m for BGN 135,160 excluding VAT. “The complex is a two-storey building – a balneotherapy centre with a total floor area of 680 sq m – and a bathtub section built on 164 sq m. The ground floor has two pools with toilets and changing rooms for men and women, and a doctor's office. The first floor has doctors' offices and physiotherapy. The bathtub section is an annex to the main building. Each bathtub section has an anteroom, and there is an inner courtyard between the existing building and the annex.
Considerable investment is planned to reconstruct the complex and turn ‘Belchinski Mineralni Bani’ EOOD into a modern balneological centre.”
In the seventeen years since the property was acquired, no investment in the building or its surroundings has been seen. Both are in a sorry state.
