About the bath
A large complex of solid buildings in the middle of nature, built as a mineral bath and balneotherapy centre, with a men's and a women's section with pools, bathtubs, a doctor's office and changing rooms. The bath worked until the end of the 1990s, when it was closed; it was privatised in 2006.
The privatisation deal came with an investment programme to build mineral pools and a rehabilitation centre in the village, and “Etap Adres” also received a government concession to bottle the mineral water in Barziya. The spa complex was never built. The bath is closed and does not work.
“Today the people of the village remember with sadness the wonderful spa centre where doctors and health workers worked and patients came from all over Bulgaria. Unfortunately this socialist-era spa centre was sold, and the ‘Kom’ mineral water bottling plant was built in its place,” says the mayor of Barziya, Atanas Aleksov, in an interview with BNR Radio Vidin.
