About the bath
In 1882 the first chemical analysis of mineral water in Bulgaria was carried out on this spring, marking the beginning of organised balneotherapy in the country. At that time the government of Eastern Rumelia issued the first “Regulations for the operation of the Hisarya baths”. The first bath dates from 1903, opened by Tsar Ferdinand with a “royal bath”, and was later extended by his son, Tsar Boris III. The municipal “Momina Banya” reopened in 2026 after a four-year major renovation costing BGN 3.8 million. It has been turned into a spa centre with a bath (small men's and women's sections) and a “Royal Bath”. The bath offers showers, stone basins (kurni) and a small pool at 37–38 °C that holds 4–5 people. The spa area has a large pool (preserved from the old Turkish bath) at 42 °C, a sauna, a steam bath and an ice tub. The “Royal Bath” is for 4 people, with a pool and a relaxation area. The ancient brick inscription and the “Roman wall”, part of one of the pool rooms, are very well known. In front of the bath entrance, on a lower terrace, is the “Momina Banya” pavilion for filling bottles.
