About the bath
The first bath, a simple wooden building, was put up on the initiative of the mayor of Hvoyna Municipality, Kostadin Zlatanov, and opened on 1 July 1891. In 1911 the largest mineral spring of the resort was captured and a new public bath was built by master builder Stefan Kalfa. The building was completed in its present form in 1945, and in the 1950s a remarkable terraced park was laid out around it. In 1966 an extra floor was added for a polyclinic. The bath worked until the early 1990s.

The water and its healing properties
The most distinctive thing about the water is that it contains radon – one of the few places in Bulgaria with such a high content. Its healing properties come from this radioactive element. The mineral water comes from three springs of similar physical and chemical composition but different flow, temperature and radioactivity. The water is hypothermal (between 11 and 29 °C), hydrocarbonate-sodium, radon and fluoride water. It is clear, odourless and pleasant to drink. It can be drunk alongside the prescribed treatments, which include a therapeutic pool, bubble baths and underwater massage baths. It also contains small amounts of manganese, lead, zinc, cadmium, iron and tungsten. It is used only on medical prescription.
